Pharmaceutical Separation Solutions

Pharmaceutical manufacturers rely on well-controlled separation processes to meet quality, safety, and regulatory requirements. Koch-Glitsch supports pharmaceutical applications with mass transfer and phase separation technologies used in distillation and purification systems where consistency, control, and repeatability are critical.

Koch-Glitsch solutions are applied across batch and continuous pharmaceutical processes, from early development through full-scale production. With proven equipment and application expertise, we help pharmaceutical producers address separation challenges related to efficiency, pressure drop, and scale-up. For specialty pharmaceutical applications, Montz solutions are available as part of the Koch-Glitsch portfolio, expanding application-specific options.

Koch-Glitsch technologies support a wide range of pharmaceutical operations, including:

  • Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) production
  • Solvent recovery and recycling
  • Purification and fractionation
  • Pharmaceutical-grade alcohol and solvent processing

Key Technologies

Montz-Pak Type A3 Wire Gauze

Wire gauze structured packing from Koch-Glitsch is applied in pharmaceutical distillation where high separation efficiency, low pressure drop, and gentle product handling are required. These packings are well suited for thermally sensitive and high-value products and are commonly used in both pilot and commercial columns where repeatable mass transfer performance and predictable scale-up are critical.

Montz Type S Liquid Distributor

Designed for uniform liquid distribution at low flow rates (≤1gpm/ft2), a common requirement in pharmaceutical columns. By precisely metering liquid across the entire cross section of packing, Type S distributors support stable vapor–liquid contact and consistent separation efficiency in systems operating within narrow hydraulic operating ranges.
