Nitric acid
As air and ammonia are fed to the reactor/converter, they must first be cleaned to prevent decomposition of the ammonia and contamination of the platinum gauze.
Koch-Glitsch recommends FLEXIFIBER® mist eliminators to clean the air and ammonia before they are fed to the reactor/converter. This prevents decomposition of the ammonia and contamination of the platinum gauze. 
 
In addition, FLEXIFIBER mist eliminators are used to filter and recover any platinum carried off the gauze from the reactor and to eliminate acid mist carried over from the absorption tower that could corrode downstream equipment.
